How To Reach Your Goals in 2015

Make 2015 Your Best Year Yet

Considering today is my birthday (Yay me!) I thought I’d branch out from my “usual” topics (Real Estate Investing, Real Estate Advice, Advice to Sell Your Home Faster, etc.) and offer up some of the personal development tips that I’ve learned while running my own successful businesses.

Maybe you can find a couple of gems here to help your achieve your goals in 2015 - and beyond! So, without further ado, here are my top 5 tips to help you reach your goals in 2015!

1.  Start Small, Think Big!

I think it’s huge to have big goals, but to focus on the little tiny momentary details that are in front of you.  Why? Because if you don’t think big, you won’t get somewhere big! That big goal will motivate you when the going gets a little tough, or it feels like the world is against you.  The flipside of that is taking the time to live in the moment and focus on the little tasks that will make your work more effective, more fun, and most of all, build towards your bigger goal!

2.  Go Outside Your Comfort Zone

If you aren’t getting uncomfortable, you aren’t learning new things, and if you aren't progressing, you probably aren’t moving towards your goal as fast as you would like.  Don’t be afraid to go places, read things, and learn new skills that will make you better at what you do.  Example: a lot of the investors I work with are taking a big risk even admitting that they want to try a new career.  When they come to the Appleton REIA, they are taking a great first step to achieving their dream!  For many people, just taking that first step is a huge reach outside their comfort zone…and it often pays off big.

3.  Ask for Help

If you get stuck, ask for help.  If you need guidance on a project, ask for help.  If you are venturing out into something new, ask for help! (Are you starting to see a trend here?)  The bottom line is, there are people who can help you achieve your goal.  Those who are afraid to ask others for help often get stuck and end up abandoning their goal. Don’t be that person - make sure that you reach out for help if you need it!

4.  Avoid Burnout - Take a Break!

The road is going to be long to achieve your goal.  And here’s a little bit of a "keeping it real" moment - once you actually reach your goal, there will be more work to do, or more goals to move towards.  The point is, there is always going to be more to do, and if you don’t give yourself the occasional “time-out”, you’ll just make life more difficult on yourself when you run out of energy.  So take a day off, take a weeks vacation…whatever you need to do to recharge, reboot, and refocus!

5.  Value Your Family and Friends

I’ve seen people get so caught up in achieving their goals that they get “caught up in the game” and neglect the very things that they start out valuing the most - family, friends, and loved ones. Folks, these people are what makes life special, so don’t lose sight of their importance.  Alienating people in order to reach your goals just isn’t where it’s at, so make more friends (not enemies), carve out special time for your family, and don’t forget, life should be a win-win situation, even in business!

Hope those tips help! Good luck achieving YOUR goals and dreams!
