A lot of people think that a realtor is a realtor is a realtor. But the fact is, some realtors will be a good fit you and your situation, and some won't. I know personally that many of the clients I work with as a Realtor are people who I truly think I "vibe" with, which makes success in selling their home almost guaranteed. But what happens when you end up with a realtor who you don't vibe with? Well, it isn't always pretty, and it can save you precious time and precious money, leading to major frustration. So let's talk about how to AVOID this situation
5 Ways To Find A Great Realtor
1. Be Clear About What YOU Want
The first thing you should do BEFORE you contact a realtor is to get clear about what exactly you want when it comes to selling your home. "Okay Jacci", you are saying "Isn't it obvious that I want to sell my house as quick as possible for the highest possible asking price"? Right, I get that! But the reality of the market may create different factors that could cause your dream sale to become your nightmare sale if you stick to a price that is just too high for the market. So make a note with answers to the following:
- What repairs or renovations are you up for doing?
- What is your financial situation?
- Do you want to sell with a realtor or FSBO?
2. Get References for Realtors
Asking around for references can be the best way to find a great realtor. Surely many people you know have bought or sold property recently, and they will often have worked with at least one (sometimes more) realtors, and can give you insight into their experiences. I know that many of my best clients have come from personal recommendations, a fact I appreciate greatly!
3. Do Online Research on Realtors
Researching online is another crucial way to find the realtor that is right for you. Most realtors that are worth their salt have a social media presence of some sort, and you know people won't be shy in expressing their true opinions over social media. If a realtor has good interaction and reviews over social media, you can be sure they care about their clients enough to provide ongoing value and service!
4. Understand the TRUE Value of Your Home
One of the most important reasons to employ a realtor because they have their fingers on the pulse of the market. This means you have to open to whatever the reality of your local market is. With real estate recovering over the past few years, it's once again a good time to be a homeowner or seller. So be open to the reality of what the market dictates as far as the value of your home, and your relationship with your realtor will be a lot easier.
5. Be A Team Player
Your Realtor is on YOUR team and wants you to get the best deal possible for your home. They are on your team! If you go into your relationship with your realtor understanding that they truly have your best interests in mind, your experience is bound to be a good one!
