As a Realtor, Real Estate Investor, and Real Estate Coach in the Appleton/Fox Cities Area, I see it all.
And often times, I run into people who are having problems that they can't control. (Obviously, these have to do with real estate - I'm not a psychologist). But even though I'm not liscensed to give clinical advice, I've dealt with so many situations regarding real estate that I feel I'm definitely qualified to over some practical advice about what you CAN control when everything just seems to be going wrong while trying to sell your home. Here are some of things I've heard real people say to me lately:
- My house is getting foreclosed on and I need a way out before the bank takes it
- I can't find a home because the market is too competitive
- I can't sell my home because it needs too many repairs
- I want to get into real estate investing, but I don't have the cash to buy properties
- I can't sell my home because animals have taken it over and it smells so bad that you'd need a toxic mask just walk through there. (Actually happened!)
You get the point - a lot of people are dealing with different real estate problems. So without further ado, here are my 5 things you CAN control when everything seems out of control:
1. Your Attitude.
Face it folks, sometimes crap happens to good people. And sometimes crap happens to bad people. And sometimes crap happens to mediocre people. And so on and so forth. But what I think separates the people that win at life and the people that lose is your attitude! We all take it on the chin sometimes, and it's okay to be sour if your home has lost value, or you can't find the home you want, or especially if you are losing home to a foreclosure. I get it! But after years and years of experience, I can honestly say that the people that usually come out of situations the best are the people that are able to maintain a positive attitude as much as possible. We all have some dark clouds in the sky sometimes, but that doesn't mean the sun isn't close by.
2. How You Interact With Others
As a Real Estate Agent, Coach, and Investor, you might say I deal with a LOT of people, from a lot of different walks of life. And one things I always try to do (this relates strongly to my first point) is to treat everybody with respect and dignity! I've talked before on this blog and on social media about win-win situations, and I really think you should go into every interaction with another person taking into account their feelings and their needs, even if your goals seem at odds. People will really feel it in their bones if you are a person that is genuinely concerned with others! This point was really driven home to me during a recent trip to Guatemala when I saw how friendly everybody was even though they were dirt poor and, in our eyes, didn't have a whole lot of material things to be happy about. That brings me to my next point...
3. Hold Perspective!
Having a clear perspective can really be crucial if you are having difficulty with a real-estate related situation. The fact is, we live in a really nice part of the world, have access to clean water, plenty of resources, and a very high standard of living compared to most of the people on earth. So keep things in perspective! If your home has lost some of it's value, I feel for you. Heck, I've even been there myself - not every deal has worked out in my favor. But the quicker you can realize that the game of life isn't against you and you have a ton to be grateful for, the easier things will be!
Ok, that's the end of "Motivational Jacci's" speech for the day! I just want you to know that if you do have a real estate related issue, you can reach out to me and I will do my best to help you out!
